First of all, you’ll need to surround yourself with English – specifically native-speakers. Everything you read, watch and listen to should be in English. You should also draw up a timetable making sure that you dedicate a specific number of hours per week to your preparation and stick to it. You’ll need to do IELTS practice tests to become familiar with the format and questions as well as work on improving your grammar, vocabulary, writing, reading, listening and speaking skills. Most importantly, you’ll need to give yourself a realistic time frame to do this.
The IELTS test may be required to study at some English medium universities in Dubai, however, it's not necessary to do the IELTS when applying for a tourist or work visa in the UAE.
When you book your test you can request that your score be sent to up to 5 addresses (immigration agencies, universities etc). If you need more than 5, a fee will be charged for each one above 5. The institute you are applying to can also view your results online – they will need to access the IELTS Test Report Form (TRF) Verification Service and you will need to provide them with your Test Report Form number which is in the bottom right corner of your Test Report Form.
