Overview
If your dream is to study at a Canadian university or college, proving your English proficiency is a critical first step. The CAEL (Canadian Academic English Language) test is a comprehensive, computer-based exam designed specifically to measure the English level of international students planning to study in Canada.
- *The Exam Preparation & Testing House FZCO (TEPTH) is proud to be an official authorized test center for CAEL in Dubai, UAE. By choosing TEPTH, you gain the advantage of preparing for and sitting your official exam in a single, state-of-the-art testing facility that guarantees a secure and distraction-free environment.
Unlike other global English tests, CAEL is deeply rooted in the Canadian educational experience. It uses Canadian English vocabulary and accents, and is uniquely accepted by 100% of English-speaking Canadian universities and colleges, as well as numerous Canadian professional associations for licensure.
The CAEL Difference: An Integrated, Topic-Based Approach
What makes CAEL completely unique is its integrated format. Instead of testing your skills in isolated silos (e.g., reading about history, then listening to biology), CAEL groups tasks by subject. You might read an article about glaciers, listen to a lecture on the same topic, and then use the information from both sources to write an essay.
This accurately simulates a real first-year Canadian university class, naturally providing you with the vocabulary and context to help construct your answers.
CAEL Test Format & Structure at TEPTH Dubai
The CAEL test is completed in a single, continuous 3.5-hour session on a computer at our secure Dubai test center. It is divided into five main sections:
- Speaking: Speak into a microphone to answer short questions about academic experiences, summarize information, and relay details from a short presentation.
- Integrated Reading: Read academic passages (textbook excerpts or articles) and answer comprehension questions.
- Integrated Listening: Listen to academic lectures, presentations, or campus conversations and answer audio-based questions.
- Academic Unit A: Read a passage and listen to a lecture on the same topic, then synthesize information from both sources to write an extended essay.
- Academic Unit B: Similar to Unit A but slightly shorter; you will read and listen to a unified topic before writing a shorter response.
Understanding Your Score & Results
CAEL uses a specialized Band Score system ranging from 10 to 90 points. Your official score report provides an Overall Band Score alongside individual scores for Reading, Listening, Speaking, and Writing. Most Canadian academic institutions require an overall score between 60 and 70 for direct admission. Official scores are typically available online within 8 business days of your test.
